The School Search before the Home Search

So you’re moving to a new neighborhood, a new city or state, or even a new country! It’s all very exciting! And it can also be overwhelming! Often one of the first steps families typically take is to contact a Real Estate Agent - an obvious need to help you find a new home. But what we hear from nearly every family we help is that the SCHOOL CHOICE is the MOST IMPORTANT part of the move. Once that house is purchased or leased, the guaranteed public school choice is locked in! And that ideal private school may be an hour away from the new neighborhood.

All too many times, families come to us for a school search AFTER they’ve made a commitment to a new home. We understand that it’s difficult to move a child who is happy at school and will be leaving friends. That move can be even more difficult if a child isn’t happy in their current school setting or is having learning difficulties that must be addressed in a new school. As parents, we can all agree that our happiness is largely dependent on our children’s happiness! And since children spend the majority of their time in school, that is most often the biggest factor in helping children adjust to a move.

If you are contemplating a move, we’d like to suggest that you first do a thorough school search! Whether you use our services at Houston School Options, or conduct your own school search, it is so much easier to do so before you are bound to a particular home or neighborhood. In the Greater Houston Area, and many other cities, there are many public school districts and some of the best are in suburban areas that may be quite far outside of the city center. While all of them may seem like good options, we know that not only does every family have their own needs, so does each child within that family. It can be quite confusing and nerve-wracking to try to research all of those options without the help of an Educational Consultant who can help you narrow your options. And that can ultimately help you make your choice of a new home that much easier!
